Happy New Year from your Club executive and Board of Directors! We’re excited to announce a major development for our Club.
For the past few weeks, we’ve been in negotiations with a local facility about renting space and expanding the amount of playing time available to club members. Now, we’re excited to announce the result. Our newest location is the community centre at Heritage College and Seminary at 175 Holiday Inn Dr, (across from Zehrs).
Their centre is only a few years old and has a fantastic gym large enough to accommodate four pickleball courts. To start, we will be offering sessions every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon. Because there are four courts instead of our usual three, these sessions will be open to 26 players. At this time, we’ll be experimenting with dividing the sign-up to 13 recreational players (up to Level 3.0) and 13 competitive players (3.0 and above). This should help members get an idea of what level of play to expect when signing up.
Please keep in mind, this is an experiment. Should the numbers not be balanced between recreation and competitive players for Saturday, adjustments will be made. Should it work out, Saturday sessions will have two courts for recreational play and two for Level 3.0 and above competitive. For the latter group, this helps address the loss of Thursday competitive nights at Temple.
In addition, Heritage is offering the option of Sunday morning sessions and, beginning in April, Thursday evening sessions. These are all in addition to our existing sessions at Temple Baptist, St. Vincent de Paul and St. Augustine. Our club web site will be kept up to date with any schedule changes.
With the added sessions, we will begin addressing our extensive membership wait list of over 100 people. As a first step, invitation-to-join emails (directly from Pickleball Canada) will go out to the 40 who have waited the longest. They will be given two weeks to respond and depending on how many do, more invitations will be sent.
